Summer Conference just weeks away
We hope you and your delegates are all registered for the upcoming conference being held in conjunction with District 7. (visit 4aaf.com for full the conference schedule)

In addition to the numerous professional and club management programs, the first Board of Directors meeting will be held on Sunday morning.  Please be sure that you and your delegates are in attendance and in the meeting room during roll call. Those absent can't vote. Please advise your delegation of this responsibility prior to the conference. We will need a quorum to conduct District business including the approval of the annual budget.

Before arriving at the conference, please review and share with your delegates the minutes from the 2009 Annual Conference in Orlando. These will be voted on for approval. Please bring your copy.

Remember, all Federation Presidents must file a written report with the District Secretary during the meeting and give a three-minute oral report. Information on the conference programs, and hotel and conference registration can be found on the District website at  http://www.4aaf.com/event_details.cfm?id=199

Win a free registration to the Fall Conference
Get out your dancing shoes and your 70's bell-bottoms.  The annual Mouth of the South lip synching competition will be held Saturday night, Aug. 21 during the Destin conference. The evening will feature top hits from 1974 to celebrate the union of Districts 7 and 4. If your song choice has already been taken you will be notified as soon as possible to choose another.  Susan sent rules and guidelines to President's. We don't have very many teams at this point and hope you can help rally the excitement to join in on the fun.

The top placing 4th District team will not only win bragging rights, but a registration to the November District conference in Palm Beach. Hurry and pick a song, send it to Susan Waldeck at swaldeck@smag.com to register.

From the District Treasurer:
Attention Local Presidents and Treasurers:  Invoices for the first one-half of your District dues will be sent out shortly.  Please let Sarah Jeffcoat and Nairn' Gillet know to whose attention they should be sent (i.e., the President, the Treasurer, the Executive Director, etc.).  The proper email addresses are  ngillet@yahoo.com and sarah@4aaf.com.  Remember, this first installment is due no later than September 30th. – Nairn' Gillet, District Treasurer

Program Ideas
Stuck for a speaker? Check out other organizations in your area for speaker ideas. Chambers of Commerce, PRSA, AMA, Business Groups, and non-profit organizations regularly schedule speakers and are great sources for new ideas. Don't forget to tap into the media in your market. They can speak on changes in their industries or refer you to speakers through their media affiliations. Best of all, they're free! —Val Staggs, Program Chair

ADDY Workshops
Make sure you bring your ADDY Chairs to Destin.  We will be holding two workshops to get your ADDY Chairs up to speed and inspired to start planning and marketing all things ADDY.  We will be holding different workshops at the November Conference in West Palm Beach to get into the nitty gritty of the ADDY software, judging and show.  It is very important that your ADDY leaders attend these conferences – it will make your life easier (as well as theirs!!) and make sure your ADDY season runs smoothly.

ADDY Chairs Manuals (a.k.a The ADDY Bible) will be distributed in Destin.  It includes key contacts, timelines and pretty much a how to on all things ADDY.

These are "don't miss" workshops! Prepare for a ton of information to come your way. See you in Destin!! -- Michael Andersen, District ADDY™ Chair

Presidents' Council The 2009-2010
Presidents Council is off to a great start! We have a fabulous bunch of presidents all very eager to grow membership and value within their club. Most clubs have held their Board Retreat to start of the year and based on the feedback I have gotten they have all been very successful and energizing. We are keeping in touch weekly with a tips and tricks email called POTLuCk (President Of The Local Club). So far we have discussed things to do to get your year started, budgets, and membership, as well as details for the upcoming "74 District Conference." We are looking forward to our next in-person meeting in Destin! —Susan Waldeck, Presidents' Council Chair

Government Relations
Just because the Ad Tax went away in the last two legislative sessions doesn't mean that the Federation or its members can forget about government relations! Continuing economic woes virtually assure that we haven't heard the last of the ad tax. And a reading of the last 78-odd years of AAF history makes it clear that efforts to regulate our industry are a recurring theme.

As a local Federation leader, you can help by ensuring that you have a functioning government relations committee in your club, maintaining contact with your local representatives and encouraging your members to keep government relations in mind and, especially, to respond to our occasional calls for grass roots assistance.

One more thing: Encourage everyone in your club to buy and wear PAC pins! They're the source of money we can use to support ad-friendly legislators. For more information or help contact Government Affairs Chair Craig Neuman. Cneuman63@verizon.net

Local Happenings
8/15 Tampa Bay Ad Fed is having an interactive design workshop with Chris Converse that is going to be great.  Please see the attached interactive PDF that was designed and exported directly out of InDesign® CS4 with imbedded links, without additional programming and ready to post to the web, too.

This workshop is for all Art Directors, Graphic Designers or anyone who works in InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator or any of the Adobe Creative Suite programs.  The things that can be learned in this workshop are really amazing and time savers that actually create billable product for little or no additional time. No additional programming required.

8/18 Treasure Coast Advertising Federation will host "The Incredible Changing Newspaper" a panel discussion with top executives from the Treasure Coast's daily newspapers, featuring Bob Brunjes of Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers and Chuck Gerardi of The Palm Beach Post. Moderator for the discussion will be celebrity spokesperson Greg Rice.

8/19 AAF JAX Social Media Success: One T-shirt at a Time Jason Sadler, of www.iwearyourshirt.com, makes a living by wearing companies' T-shirts. His concept is that simple. Each day the price goes up — January 1 he wore a Ustream.tv shirt for $1, and on December 31 he'll earn $365 to wear a 503motoring.com T-shirt. He's paid to use social media to show his daily activities, all while wearing that day's shirt. Join AAF Jax to hear how Jason created www.iwearyourshirt.com and how he uses multiple social media platforms — Twitter, Facebook, Ustream, Flickr, YouTube — to effectively promote these companies, and ultimately, himself. Jason, an area business-creative, has worked with large advertising agencies, social networks and professional sports leagues. He is co-founder of Thought & Theory, a local company specializing in developing and designing "simple and beautiful" Web applications.  www.aafjax.com
